Title Sequence
Hey hey! Welcome back to my blog. Today we will be diving into the art of title sequences.
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
So, here is the Moonrise Kingdom and it's title sequence! This really caught my eye as I found the colors, font, and overall aesthetic very pleasing to look at. After watching it, I found it even more interesting since Wes Anderson (the director) is known for his flat camera movements, using a dolly camera movement. His famous camera movements are very well portrayed in this, as the camera follows the characters by simply moving on a dolly. Anderson also utilizes whip pans to show the sudden focus on a new character. To reveal the title, the girl looks outside and the camera almost sort of imitates her vision. Showing a zoom-out to the outside, that slowly reveals the title in an elegant font. The title continues to flash in various colors that emphasizes it further! Furthermore, the music adds an adventurous and triumphant mood, further highlighting the title, "Kingdom." I enjoyed this title sequence, and it gives a great introduction to the movie. I would definitely give this a watch!
Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. (2023)
As I continued to search for title sequences, this one caught my eye in particular. The sequence starts with setting the scene in a forest and introducing the year. To continue, it shows children jumping into the war, having a blast! It has hints of fun, adventure, and comfort. It continues to show a montage of fun moments at what seems like camp. Eating popsicles, yelling, all around having a good time. Panning to her driving away from her comfort town, while the van is driving, the title is revealed. I enjoyed how the title was revealed one by one. First, "Are You There God?" is revealed, then it says, "It's Me", and lastly, "Margaret." This was done to create a tone of talking, it is almost as if the title is speaking to God. Panning over to her driving away, she moves into a new town, and that is the end of the title sequence. Overall a great pick!
Kung Fu Panda (2008)
Next up! Kung Fu Panda released in 2008. This is a classic childhood movie for me, so let's talk about the title sequence! The title sequence focuses on the main character, Po! Played by Jack Black, the title sequence makes sure to include his name. The bright yellow and red colors emphasize the Chinese themes associated with this film. With emphasize on the mountains in the background and cultural designs, Chinese themes are very strong! The title is put in bold font which highlights the brave and courageous theme.
