Final Project Mood Board

 Final Project Mood Board

Welcome back! Today let us discuss my groups final project, using a mood board!

MOOD BOARD:

What is being captured in this mood board is the overall theme throughout the film opener, family troubles on a warm Christmas evening. Not such a warm night though, as the poison shown in black and white can change the whole perspective of the film opener. We wanted to capture the contrast of a welcoming house and a thrilling murder scene with poison. Resulting in the black and white shown in the mood board, which displays a difference in the all the bright colors.

Our film's opening, which centers on a family dinner dispute, served as the inspiration for our mood board. We were attempting to develop a cozy aesthetic because the dinner is scheduled for Christmas. We decided on this gloomy Christmas vibe for my movie's opening since we thought it best suited the concept of a family meal. To create that homey effect, we made sure to add a lot of candles and darker lighting to the mood board. In order to demonstrate that it is dark outside, which helps with lighting, this also includes the nighttime photo. Basically, we wanted to evoke the atmosphere of a Christmas night.

To be more precise, every picture we chose in some way embodies the movie. In order to illustrate the characters, we made sure to include a family photo. A server bringing plates is also included. The image of the woman dressed in formal attire in red and black provides a preview of the characters' attire. Since the film opener will take place in the dining room and kitchen, images of these spaces are also included in the mood board. Since it's a dinner and one of the primary props being used, we made sure to include food. We used a picture of Christmas dining table decorations to symbolize the Christmas décor that would be used as another prop in our movie opener.

Final Project Idea

 Final Project Idea

Hey guys! Welcome back to my the final project series! Let's discuss our final idea.

The holiday meal family conflict serves as the starting point for the concept that we ultimately decide upon. In summary, this concept would occur in a dining room and kitchen. There would be a family enjoying a Christmas or Thanksgiving meal. They would strike up a discussion during this meal, which would then spark a heated argument among the family members. The situation would rapidly worsen and get chaotic. We find this concept to be really amusing.

This concept would therefore fall under the drama category. This is because it contains dramatic scenes. The debate, for instance, and perhaps some bodily changes. It will, however, diverge slightly from the drama genre because it might contain some comedy. One illustration might be the amusing taunts the family members employ to one another. However, our idea of a family dispute largely falls into the drama category.

Title Sequence

Title Sequence

Hey hey! Welcome back to my blog. Today we will be diving into the art of title sequences.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

So, here is the Moonrise Kingdom and it's title sequence! This really caught my eye as I found the colors, font, and overall aesthetic very pleasing to look at. After watching it, I found it even more interesting since Wes Anderson (the director) is known for his flat camera movements, using a dolly camera movement. His famous camera movements are very well portrayed in this, as the camera follows the characters by simply moving on a dolly. Anderson also utilizes whip pans to show the sudden focus on a new character. To reveal the title, the girl looks outside and the camera almost sort of imitates her vision. Showing a zoom-out to the outside, that slowly reveals the title in an elegant font. The title continues to flash in various colors that emphasizes it further! Furthermore, the music adds an adventurous and triumphant mood, further highlighting the title, "Kingdom." I enjoyed this title sequence, and it gives a great introduction to the movie. I would definitely give this a watch!

Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. (2023)

As I continued to search for title sequences, this one caught my eye in particular. The sequence starts with setting the scene in a forest and introducing the year. To continue, it shows children jumping into the war, having a blast! It has hints of fun, adventure, and comfort. It continues to show a montage of fun moments at what seems like camp. Eating popsicles, yelling, all around having a good time. Panning to her driving away from her comfort town, while the van is driving, the title is revealed. I enjoyed how the title was revealed one by one. First, "Are You There God?" is revealed, then it says, "It's Me", and lastly, "Margaret." This was done to create a tone of talking, it is almost as if the title is speaking to God. Panning over to her driving away, she moves into a new town, and that is the end of the title sequence. Overall a great pick!

Kung Fu Panda (2008)

Next up! Kung Fu Panda released in 2008. This is a classic childhood movie for me, so let's talk about the title sequence! The title sequence focuses on the main character, Po! Played by Jack Black, the title sequence makes sure to include his name. The bright yellow and red colors emphasize the Chinese themes associated with this film. With emphasize on the mountains in the background and cultural designs, Chinese themes are very strong! The title is put in bold font which highlights the brave and courageous theme.
